Appearance

Dax is a confident woman, and her appearance is a reflection of this. She moves with a certain, self-assured grace while always maintaining excellent posture. Her face is beautiful in the classical sense, with creamy skin and high cheekbones. Her eyes are a clear, stunning blue. Although she often prefers to wear her deep brown hair tied behind her head in a bun or ponytail, her hair naturally twists in large, loose curls. Being very athletic, Dax has a slender build with a height of 5'11" and a weight of 115 lbs.

Personality

From afar, Dax seems somewhat aloof, and her confidence may sometimes come across as pride or arrogance. However, as with most people, she is completely different to those who know her well. She is not afraid to voice her opinions, nor to share her experiences with others. Dax is a strong woman, and she can become quite aggressive in pursuing something she wants. She is an intelligent woman, and she excels in science and math in particular, which often manifests itself in her analytical mind and in her insatiable curiosity. Additionally, she is a quick-thicker and good at improvising. As a strong woman, Dax prefers to act independent and fearless; beneath the surface, however, she yearns for a relationship with a strong man to whom she can trust her insecurities and vulnerabilities and with whom she can display her more feminine side.

History

Jadzia-Dax is actually two sentient beings: Jadzia Idaris and the Dax Symbiont. Trills and Symbionts have a unique relationship: the Symbiont is planted through surgery in the abdomen of the Trill Host. Once there, the Symbiont transfers its memories and skills of any previous hosts to its new host. Over the centuries, Trills have come to regard the opportunity to carry a Symbiont as a great honor. During this time, the minds of the Host and Symbiont merge, creating a personality blended from each.

Jadzia Idaris was born an only child to Trill parents. Immediately taking note of her intelligence, they encouraged Jadzia to enlist in the Symbiont Joining Program at a young age. For most of Jadzia's life, she has had to compete against others in order to remain in the program, including maintaining high grades as well as remaining in great physical condition. She also had to prove that she was psychologically prepared to carry a symbiont, as well as prove that her goals and experiences would benefit the symbiont with whom she would join.

Once her formal education on Trill had been concluded, Jadzia was free to pursue another goal; she enrolled in Star Fleet Academy in their Science Program. Once again, she achieved high marks and graduated with distinctions in Astrophysics, Zoology, Exoarcheology, and Exobiology. Her achievements as a student allowed her to begin her Star Fleet career at the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade.

Now old enough to resume her training in the Symbiont Joining Program, Jadzia became an Initiate and was assigned Curzon-Dax as a mentor. Curzon-Dax immediately disliked the quiet, unsure girl, and, upon his recommendation, she was removed from the program.

Outraged, Jadzia reapplied. She stood before the Joining Committee with her case and demanded they reaccept her, claiming she had been unfairly removed. Her tenacity impressed Curzon-Dax, and, without her knowledge, he, too addressed the Committee -- this time, on her behalf. With Curzon-Dax's recommendation, Jadzia became the first Trill to be readmitted to the Program.

Only two years later, Jadzia received the Dax symbiont, once again based on Curzon-Dax's recommendation to the Committee. Once the procedure and her readjustment period had ended, Jadzia returned to her Star Fleet duties aboard Deep Space Nine, where she has served as the station's Science Officer.

The Dax Symbiont has a much longer history. Each of these hosts had different lives and their own experiences, which have contributed to Jadzia-Dax's personality and quirks. The highlights are below:
Lela: Lela was one of the first women to serve on the Joining Committee. Jadzia has picked up Lela's habit of standing and walking with her hands behind her back, which Lela developed at countless podiums during political debates and campaigns.
Tobin: Tobin was a skilled engineer. Although Jadzia doesn't like to admit it, some of Tobin's insecurities sometimes echo in her own head.
Emony: Emony won three latinum medals for her sweeping victories in the 2224 Olympics. Jadzia credits her enjoyment of physical activities to her.
Audrid: Audrid participated in a cover-up regarding the death of a Symbiote, which is unimaginable to most joined Trill. His action saved the life of the Trill Host.
Torias: The fifth host of the Symbiot died shortly after being joined in a shuttle accident. Jadzia's fear of flying in small aircraft is from this incident.
Joran: Joran is the "forgotten host." His joining was covered up by the Joining Committee after Joran-Dax went insane and killed three unjoined Trill. His intended fourth victim killed him while defending herself. The Joining Committee found fault in their screening process and covered-up Joran's joining by claiming that Torias remained in a coma for six months after his accident. The Dax Symbiont also underwent a procedure to block the memories. Jadzia unsurfaced Joran's memories after she had been joined for some time.
Curzon: As the seventh host, Curzon-Dax was an exception to many Trill stereotypes. He was a known womanizer and a braggart, and he enjoyed challenging traditional methods of achieving goals. He worked closely with the Federation to improve relations with the Klingon Empire. His knowledge and appreciation of Klingon culture continues in Jadzia.

The Dax Symbiont is over three-hundred years old.

In-Game History

Dax's childhood was perfect. Intelligent and curious, she was restless in school, although her grades were never affected. Nothing seemed to hold her interest. As an only child, her parents showered her with attention, and she quickly grew to become a Daddy's Girl. Always a bit of a tom-boy, she often accompanied her father to the police station and soon developed a desire to follow in his footsteps. While still at the Police Academy, her father was injured on the job. Her mother declared that enough was enough and relentlessly pursued his retirement. Although Dax never had the chance to work with her father, she continues to consider him a hero. Both of her parents are fully retired and live most of the year in Arizona.
